Virginia N. Meehan

Executive Director for Government Relations

Virginia Meehan joined the University of Maryland in May 2016 and serves as the Executive Director of Government Relations. In this role, she oversees the Office of Government Relations and the university's government relations strategy across federal, state, and local levels. As a member of the President’s cabinet, Virginia offers strategic advice to the President on all issues pertaining to government relations. As her primary responsibility, Virginia works with the US Congress, the White House, and federal agencies to advance the legislative agenda of the university.

Virginia previously served as Director of Federal Relations for UMD. Before joining UMD, she served as Director of Federal Relations for Northwestern University and as a Government Relations Associate for Lewis-Burke Associates, a consulting firm in Washington, DC. She also spent five years working in the U.S. House of Representatives handling education, science, and health policy. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Miami University of Ohio.
